WBC in WDC – starts tomorrow!

Posted in Uncategorized on June 22, 2010 by togflx

The schedule‘s been finalized, we’re printing out copies of the WBC in WDC Coffee Map, and gearing up for two days of coffee, baristas, and the World Barista Competition.

We do want to stress that you don’t need to attend everything. We all have jobs, too! Even if you can only make it to a single class, or the happy hours, we’re happy to have you.

We are particularly excited about the classes taking place Thursday and Friday. Though they’re listed on the schedule, I’m highlighting them below. Hope you can make it to one class or ALL the classes!

Thursday 24 June
9:30am-12:00pm: “What Makes Great Coffee Great,” David Fritzler, Beverage Director, Tryst, OC, The Diner

3:00pm-4:30pm: “Effects of caffeine on the brain”

Friday 25 June
9:00am-12:00pm: “Brewing Methods and Techniques,” Phil Proteau, Customer Relations Representative, CCC

1:00pm-3:00pm: “Roasting Coffee,” Andy Sprenger, Head Roaster, Caffe Pronto

Ready, set, go! We’ll see you Wednesday evening, or Thursday, or Friday…

And best of luck to all the baristas competing in London at the World Barista Competition. We’ll be watching!

Almost!

Less than a week until the World Barista Championships and, more importantly, the WBC in WDC barista jam! Your WBC in WDC planning team is putting the finishing touches on next week’s awesomeness. We hope you’re getting excited.

In the meantime, check out the schedule of events of things to come.

Also, have you RSVP’d on our Facebook page? Let us know you’re coming! Particularly if you’re coming from out of town and need a place to crash.

We’ll have the final information up by this weekend. In the meantime you can always post a comment or e-mail Randy (randallDOTkindleATgmailDOTcom) with any questions.

The Schedule

Posted in Uncategorized on June 4, 2010 by randykindle

So our very good friend Alex Brown from Counter Culture Coffee has been kind enough to let us crash his office and do this silly thing. He was also gracious enough to put together the schedule of events.

June 23

Barista Jam welcome and kick-off. This of course will be followed by beer.

June 24 (for the baristi)

8-9 breakfast

9:30 – 12 – What Makes Coffee Great: Experiences in Coffee Quality Variables

1- 2:30 – Coffee Processing

3- 4:30 – Roasting

After class we will have a little break and then go over to Sova where we will have plenty of great beer, watch the WBC on their huge tv and then at about 8 we will have a very special TNT!

June 25 (for the public)

8-9 – Breakfast

9:30-12 – Brewing Methods

1-2:30 – Origins

3-4:30 – Sustainability

Take a little break

6-the breaka breaka dawn – Watch the finals of the WBC

This is all subject to change, of course. We can expect a little shifting and such of the schedule.

I really hope to see you all there and maybe we can all get in a big stupid family photo together and send it to Todd.

As The Time Draws Nigh

Posted in Uncategorized on June 2, 2010 by randykindle

No not Whitman, he was overrated. GuildWars FTW!!!1!!! I would also except World of Warcraft. But the WBC in WDC Barista Jam is also drawing nigh. So buy your plane tickets, make a new friend to stay with, and get your homebrew beer ready. So far, thanks to the facebooks and tweeterers, it looks like we have roughly 45 or so people that will be attending the festivities.

Here are your assignments:

Cafes- go here to register at Go Live. You must do this to be able to stream the WBC in your cafe. But no worries, its free!

Bars – order extra beer, maybe this kind, if you really love us.  And if you can’t get it we will be relying on our friends from Philly to bring some down…….Julia!

Food Places – want to sponsor breakfast pastries? Oh, good. Contact me randall.kindle@gmail.com

Baristas…baristi…baristadors! – get hydrated

Coming soon, the schedule and the final list of our partners that we will be ever so grateful for.

On edit:

I encourage everyone to join the BGA. Maybe at the Jam we can have a meeting to set up a BaristaUnion™. Local 202

Send Coffee, Beer, Gifts, and Juliet Han

I have gotten a few calls from regarding this silly little thing we are putting on. So here are the updates:

1) If you are flying in from out of town and would like to save some money to buy me lots of beer, let me know. We can hook you up with a Barista Buddy™! I know a few people that will be staying with me, including this wonderful girl. And speaking of Barista Buddy™, my DC peeps needs to holla at me to let me know if you can do the same.

2) We are finalizing the class schedule. It looks like there will be some really cool stuff. how to tie a bow-tie, how to as smoove as this guy, and some really geeky stuff about how coffee makes your brain goofy and makes you look cool. I will post more next week about this.

3) Oh, and please feel free to contact me if you have any questions. randall dot kindle at gmail dot com.

4) Oh, and big thanks to Comet Coffee in Ann Arbor for sending Anna to Peregrine with some very nice treats. We always like coffee and everyone should feel free to shower us with gifts. If you would like to donate some coffee for this jam, let me know.

We’re Back

Posted in Uncategorized on April 23, 2010 by randykindle

So it has been a while since the last post. A lot of crazy things have happened. Jeremy won the MARBC, Grant came in 4th, Peregrine has been named one of the 10 best cafes in the country, Earth Day happened, taxes have been paid, and Maura and Julie returned to their proper homes.

So, on with the show.

Like to geek out? How about a little talk on caffeine and the brain? Done. More to come on that soon. We are also planning some stuff with birds and coffee, nothing final yet.

What else can you look forward to? How about a nice Belgian Dubble brewed with cascara? Done.
